Is it Time for a 7-Team WPL?
Currently, the WPL consists of 5 teams (MI, RCB, DC, UPW, GG). However, the massive success of the previous two seasons has led to a demand for expansion. Fans in Chennai (CSK) and Kolkata (KKR) are desperate to see their women’s teams in action.
Why Expansion is Necessary
Talent Depth: India’s domestic structure is now producing enough quality players to fill two more squads.
Local Rivalries: Imagine a WPL version of the “El Clasico” (CSK vs MI). It would be a marketing goldmine.
The Challenges
The BCCI is cautious about “diluting the quality.” They want to ensure that every team remains competitive. If not 2026, we might see new teams by 2027.
